Jacksonville University invites nominations and applications for the key leadership position of Provost and Chief Academic Officer. This position reports to the president and will serve as the senior leader of the institution and the senior member of the president's executive team. President Timothy Cost seeks a seasoned academic leader to engage all University constituencies in a high performing, results-oriented, comprehensive academic leadership role. This position, together with the president, will lead the university and will function in close partnership with faculty, deans, and division and department chairs. The Provost and Chief Academic Officer will be responsible for strengthening and sustaining the institution's academic distinction, majors and programs, faculty, and all academic facilities. This energetic leader will be expected to engage faculty, students, staff and alumni in various academic initiatives to advance the future strength of the institution.

Jacksonville University, is an independent, coeducational university located on nearly 200 acres along the St. John's River in Jacksonville, Florida. Entering its 80th year in 2014, Jacksonville University enjoys a solid reputation for excellence in undergraduate arts and sciences and in business programs, as well as distinguished programs in health sciences, aviation, marine biology, the fine arts and education. The University offers more than 70 undergraduate academic programs and 15 masters and doctoral degree programs.  The University currently has 4100 students including 2418 undergraduates representing 41 states and 45 different countries.  The University's five colleges include Arts and Sciences, Fine Arts, Health Sciences, Business, and Interdisciplinary Studies.  Historically, Jacksonville University has graduated students from over 92 different nations and has an alumni footprint across the global corporate, non-profit, science, health and arts landscape.
 
The recent arrival of Jacksonville University’s 12th president, Tim Cost, represents a clear decision by the Board of Trustees to build upon the existing regional strength of Jacksonville University by positioning the institution among the academically most valued and respected universities both in the region and throughout the US. An alumnus of Jacksonville University, President Cost is a nationally recognized corporate leader having held senior leadership roles in Fortune 500 companies such as Kodak, Bristol-Myers Squibb, ARAMARK, Wyeth/Pfizer, most recently serving as Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs at PepsiCo.
 

Responsibilities

The Provost and Chief Academic Officer will be responsible for strengthening and sustaining the institution's academic distinction, majors and programs, faculty, and all academic facilities. This energetic leader will be expected to engage faculty, students, staff and alumni in various academic initiatives to advance the future strength of the institution.

Qualifications

Strong candidates for this role will have a terminal degree in their field or discipline; at least 8 years of progressively responsible and complex  academic administrative experience preferably in a private college or university setting; proven results in hiring, retaining and professionally supporting capable faculty; demonstrated accomplishment in matters of academic accreditation, assessment, curricular design and review; proven action-orientated tactical and strategic skills in leadership and day-to-day management in academic affairs university-wide; a humane and energetic leadership style; and a reputation for personal and professional integrity beyond reproach.

The position of Provost and Chief Academic Officer will remain open and in active search until the position is filled. Applications and nominations are open beginning December 23 and review of candidates will begin in late January.  Preference will be given to candidates who apply by February 1, 2014.
