Position Description

Position Summary:
The Graduate Advisor works in a team-based environment within the School of Nursing and is responsible for evaluating and advising licensed students in the MSN programs. The Graduate Advisor also serves as a liaison for the program with Jacksonville University.



Description of Essential Job Duties:
1.      Evaluate college and university transcripts for licensed nursing students entering the MSN program
2.      Coordinate with the registrar the posting of transferred courses
3.      Academic Advising for licensed nursing students entering the MSN programs under the supervision of the Director of Graduate Programs for the School of Nursing
4.      Coordinate recruitment and retention activities for the MSN programs
5.      Coordinate the academic schedule and serve as a liaison to faculty activities for the MSN program
6.      Serve as a liaison between activities for the MSN programs and Jacksonville University
7.       Other duties as deemed necessary


Work Conditions:
·         Primarily indoors except when traveling between campus buildings or being off-campus
·         Standard office hours 8:30am to 5:00pm
·         Some off-campus travel required
·         Work is performed under minimum supervision and requires incumbent to exercise independence and discretion


Physical Requirements:
·         Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
·         Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
·         Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone





Prerequisites Required for Position:
1.      Minimum Education Requirement: Baccalaureate Degree
2.      Minimum Work Experience: Knowledge of nursing profession and educational requirements


3.      Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a university environment
Special Skills:
· Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
· Computer literate
