Position Description

The Assistant Director is primarily responsible for advising prospective and continuing students/families of Jacksonville University regarding the financial aid application process, aid availability, and how funds are administered.  Responsible for the oversight of aid program eligibility on a student by student basis, and submitting required reports within established deadlines.


Essential Job Duties:

Work professionally within a team of peers, and members of other offices, to recruit and retain students as it pertains to financial aid services

  • Be able to competently explain award determinations, and understand awarding principles for the Institutions Recruitment and Retention Goals
  • Work closely with Admissions, Registrar, and Student Accountants to help resolve student issues and concerns
  • Advise students on documentation needed, different aid programs, debt management, and financial aid regulations (i.e.) Citizenship and Selective Service Mismatches
  • Meet with prospective and returning students and their parents to discuss financial aid processes and programs, and to assist with completing the FAFSA application and other financial aid forms
  • Attend campus outreach and recruitment events on behalf of the Financial Aid Office (Daily JU Visits, JU Admissions Open Houses, Orientation, High School Financial Aid nights, etc.)
  • Review student’s data as files come in, and are packaged.  Must make contact to the student if there are discrepancies, or if additional information is needed
  • Evaluate Special Circumstances and exercise Professional Judgment in changing the income elements used to calculate EFC, changing and/or adjusting costs of attendance, and permitting Dependency Overrides.
  • Responsible for current changes in federal and state regulations in regard to the application, awarding, and verification processes
  • Evaluate emergency loans requests and prepare paperwork for Associate Directors signature
  • Review weekly list of potential refunds
  • Other duties as assigned
Work Conditions:
·        Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus
·        Standard office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
·        Attendance at evening and weekend events is required
·        Off-campus, state and regional travel is required
·        Incumbent will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines
Physical Requirements:
·         Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach
·         Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
·         Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
·         Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone



Minimum Qualifications:
·        Bachelors degree

·        2-3 Years Experience in a college financial aid office

  • Understanding of federal, state, and institutional regulations governing a financial aid program
  • Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent Customer Service skills
  • Excellent computer skills
