Transfer Admissions Officer

Chief Admissions Officer

Position Description

Recruit, counsel and facilitate the enrollment of new transfer students in accordance with the mission, goals and policies of Jacksonville University as supported by the Admissions Department​.

The individual in this position is expected to assist Jacksonville University in the achievement of its vision and mission with regard to annual student enrollment through a strong customer focus, college service and a willingness to assist the Admissions Department in all aspects of recruitment and retention of incoming students.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Identify prospective students who desire to transfer to a four year institution; provide information and guidance regarding transfer policies and procedures, as well as financial aid opportunities
  • Assist students with goals and degree program clarification; perform academic and vocational assessments as they relate to transfer opportunities
  • Provide proactive direct advising to transfer prospects, inquiries and applicants concerning application, admission and enrollment procedures
  • Provide timely follow-up and advocacy for transfer students during the period in which they apply and facilitate all items and supporting documentation needed for full acceptance status
  • Utilize specialized computer programs in order to maintain comprehensive information regarding all student assignments, reports, records and documentation
  • Represent Jacksonville University at on-campus information sessions/open houses, campus tours, college fairs, designated outreach and recruitment programs and presentation opportunities
  • Represent the University in a professional manner to all constituencies
  • Achievement of student enrollment objectives as assigned by the University
  • Achieve specific numbers of applications, admits and deposits
  • Facilitate prospective student campus visits, consultations and tours as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Work Conditions:

  • Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings, conducting campus tours, or being off-campus
  • Standard office hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
  • Attendance at evening and weekend events is required
  • Off-campus, state and regional travel is required
  • Incumbent will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities as outlined in this job description
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and reach
  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone
  • Ability to operate a multi-passenger golf cart

1. Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree

2. Minimum Work Experience:

  • Familiarity with admissions and enrollment environment is desirable
  • Very strong communication skills; verbal, written and presentation
  • Very strong organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of technology and its use for student recruitment
