Position Description

 
The Upward Bound Academic Advisor will report to the Upward Bound Program Director and will be the primary student advisor for this project. He/she will provide academic, financial, and career counseling to participants. The Upward Bound Academic Advisor will be a facilitator of college, family, and community support for students and concentrate on the assessment functions of project services and participants.

 

Responsibilities

 

 

This position is responsible for maintaining student educational records, monitoring student progress according to the education plan, coordinating and conducting senior seminars and success workshops, assisting students in college and scholarship searches, assuring the timely completion of all financial forms and college and scholarship applications, conducting weekly school visits, generating reports to assess student progress, generating and administering exit interviews, coordinating the collection, distribution and return of summer textbooks, monitoring and updating the Upward Bound Facebook page, assisting with annual reports and proposals, assisting with new applicant recruiting and student/parent interviews and assisting in other duties as assigned by director.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 

 

·         Bachelor’s degree in education, guidance counseling, psychology, student services, or a related field.

 

·         Minimum of two years' experience serving in an advising capacity with an at-risk student population.

 

·         Knowledge and experience dealing with the academic, economic, social, and cultural needs of disadvantaged students.
·         Be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.

 

·         Demonstrated knowledge of student financial aid

 

·         A background similar to that of Upward Bound participants-with knowledge of the academic, economic, social, and cultural needs of disadvantaged students-is preferred.
