The Jacksonville Commitment

Jacksonville University is proudly announcing its involvement in
The Jacksonville Commitment.

JU, UNF, FCCJ and Edward Waters College are partnering with the City of Jacksonville and the Duval County Schools to make a college education affordable and obtainable to low-income high school students from Duval County.

Mayor John Peyton has pledged $1 million for The Jacksonville Commitment and each partnering college or university is raising private dollars to cover tuition costs. The program will start with the neediest students first, and as private donations are raised, the program will expand to accept more students as Commitment Scholars. The Duval County public high school students who qualify for this program financially must also meet the admissions standards for the institution they wish to enter.

As a partner in the community, Jacksonville University is committed to assisting youth to empower themselves through education. Special counselors will be working in the schools to introduce more college preparation to these students. The future prosperity of our community hinges on our commitment to education and to setting high expectations for our students. Students whose families, in the past, would not consider college as an option will now see that the community stands behind them.

Each one of us can be a part of investing in a brighter tomorrow. Private donations to the Jacksonville Commitment Fund at JU will be the key to keeping this program growing. A JU private education holds tremendous value, and thus is the one requiring the most support.
