Theatre Arts
Imagine: It’s your curtain call and it’s only your freshman year! That’s the great thing about studying Theatre Arts at Jacksonville University. Unlike larger colleges where you wait in the wings (sometimes till your senior year), at JU you’re involved in every aspect of theatre from the get-go. Courses include history, acting, playwriting, production, staging, costume and scenery design, stagecraft, makeup, lighting and directing. Working with an advisor, you complement your major with electives such as video production, film, engineering graphics, opera workshop and more.
At Jacksonville University, Theatre Arts is hands-on all the way—from creating scenery and stage blocking, to rigging lights and handling sound. New work is the lifeblood of theatre, and to that end, we encourage and support students’ creative ideas and originality. The lessons learned in theatre last a lifetime: enhanced communication skills, creative and critical thinking, heightened cultural awareness, and a broad knowledge of literature and history.
Students earn the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree. Both provide comprehensive programs to prepare you for advanced study, or for a professional career in theatre or related fields.
