Freshman Admission to the School of Nursing
Program:
- Freshmen nursing students will have the opportunity to live together in a designated block of dorm rooms.
- These students will take Introduction to Nursing with Professor Michelle Edmonds.
- Freshman nursing students must meet School of Nursing admission criteria* during their freshmen year. To ensure success the student will be assigned a School of Nursing faculty advisor.
- There will be an event for the incoming freshman in the fall at which the freshman students will have a chance to meet and greet Student Nursing Association members that are willing to serve as mentors. Students will select a mentor and the mentors will meet with their freshmen counterpart once during the beginning of and once midway through the semester in both the fall and spring semesters.
- Freshman nursing students will be invited and encouraged to attend all School of Nursing events throughout their freshman year.
Admission Criteria:
- High School GPA-3.2
- High School Chemistry, Biology and Algebra with a B or equivalently weighted AP course grade.
- SAT-1100 or ACT-24
- Two letters of recommendation- one must be a high school teacher
- Interview: In person during campus tour or by telephone.
*Traditional Program Admission Requirements:
- Completion of a minimum of 28 credit hours toward the nursing major with a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
- Completion of prerequisite courses: Anatomy & Physiology I & II, General Chemistry with a lab, and English Composition I
- CPR certification, and the School of Nursing Health & Immunization Form.
