According to your Group Leader...Tips for success!
~ Be sure to respond and communicate with your Group Leader as soon and as much as possible because they’re a very reliable source of information. These students have been through this before and can help you.
~ Make sure you contact your roommate prior to coming to school in the fall. This is so you can get to know each other a little better before living together, and reassure you don't have two of everything. (i.e. mini-fridge, microwave, rugs, etc.)
~ GET INVOLVED!!! It’s the best way to meet people!
~ The best thing to know about college is that you are there for you. Only you can make your dreams come true, and only you can pass your classes. Make sure you take care of yourself before you take care of anyone else.
~ Don't be afraid to start a conversation with someone you don't know. That is the only way to meet new people. JU is a small, close-knit school, so it is not hard to get to know a lot of friendly people!
~ At first, you'll be delighted with a shorter school day, and seemingly less homework. However, KEEP UP WITH YOUR CLASS READINGS! If you put it off, not only will there be far too much to do the night or two before your test, but you will likely get too backed up to fully recover; it can happen very quickly, and most of us have been there. You'll be way ahead of the game if you're diligent about your reading from the start.
FAQs
Q: How is the food at JU?
A: The food at JU is pretty good. I always am able to find a good selection depending what time of the day it is. The best advice is to get a Deluxe Meal plan so that you can use all of the different locations that JU has provided. Artie and the food staff welcome to new ideas so do not hesitate to make a suggestion.
Q: How do I get into Oak Hall? How long do I have to wait before I can get into Oak Hall?
A: Priority for living in Oak Hall is initially given to returning students when they sign up for housing in April. Once they select rooms we are able to open up remaining spaces to first-year students.
Priority for first-year students is based on the date a student applies for housing. The earlier one applies for housing, the better chance one has of being assigned to their room preferences. If someone has a confirmed roommate(s), the person with the earliest application date will determine priority for the roommate(s).
Q: Is it easy to make friends?
