Community Service-Learning Center

Welcome to the Community Service-Learning Center!  We create opportunities for students to fulfill their community service-learning graduation requirement and we record students’ service hours. We work with  faculty to develop service-learning courses that integrate community service with academic learning.

The purpose of the JU community service-learning requirement is to engage students in the society in which they live in order to develop students into responsible citizens.  Through service and reflection, students have the opportunity to deepen their academic understanding of course content and to learn about themselves.

Undergraduate students can fulfill the community service-learning requirement in one of four ways:

  1. 2 service-learning courses
  2. 25 hours of community service and a service-learning course
  3. 50 hours of community service
  4. community-based research project (independent study)

Our mission is to promote the integration of service-learning into teaching across all academic disciplines and to encourage students to be more responsible and active citizens by actively engaging them with the society in which they live.

Our motto is:  Opening hearts, hands and minds
