Jacksonville, Fla.—Jacksonville University’s College of Fine Arts proudly presents “Crimes of the Heart,” on February 18, 19, 20, at 7:30 p.m. in P-19 Studio Theatre on campus, with a matinee performance on February 21 at 2 p.m.
Beth Henley’s Crimes, winner of the 1981 Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, tells the tell of three Mississippi sisters grappling with everyday, and not so every day, tragedies and heartaches.
"While this play overflows with infectious high spirits, it is also, unmistakably, the tale of a very troubled family. Such is Miss Henley's prodigious talent that she can serve us pain as though it were a piece of cake," raves the New York Times.
The play has recently made quite the comeback, with revival performances popping up everywhere from New York City, to Louisiana, to L.A.
Henley has an uncanny ability to harness the ugly things in life, and make them not only
hilarious, but somehow beautiful. Perhaps that is why now, in this time when so many people are facing personal tragedies of their own, Henley’s play seems to have once again struck a chord with audiences nationwide.
The show runs approximately an hour and a half with an intermission. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for seniors, military, and general students. Admission is free for JU students, faculty, and staff with appropriate ID. For more information, contact the College of Fine Arts at 904-256-7371.
