Florida CFO Sink to Speak at JU Jan. 15

1/6/2009

Jacksonville, Fla.—Alex Sink, chief financial officer of Florida, will discuss the state’s role in the global economy on Thursday, January 15 from 12 to 2 p.m. in the Davis College of Business (DCOB). As the first of four guest-speakers, Sink kicks off Jacksonville University’s “Davis Thought Leaders Speakers Series.”

Hosted by the Davis Leadership Center, the presentation is designed to provide thoughtful and constructive dialogue about how private and public leaders cannot only manage current conditions but lead transformational change.

“I think Alex is the perfect person to lead off the series,” said Joseph McCann, dean of the DCOB. “She’s not going to talk about the state budget, but rather Florida’s place in the global economy. It’s clear that world events are affecting the state and will continue to do so.”

The format of the presentation will differ from the standard, half hour or 45-minute presentation followed by a question and answer period. Sink will offer a short introduction of the topic, then McCann will serve as moderator while guests ask questions.

As CFO of Florida, Sink manages the state’s $24 billion in Treasury funds, oversees workers’ compensation and the state’s risk management programs, serves as State Fire Marshal, licenses all insurance agents in the state and investigates insurance fraud. Prior to her election in 2006, she had a 30-year career in the private financial sector, including seven years as president of Bank of America Florida.

The Thought Leaders Speakers Series will invite expert speakers in business and economics each year. For more information, call 904-256-7456 or e-mail dlc@ju.edu.
