Internship & Career Opportunities
Theatre majors are given the opportunity to attend the Florida Theatre Conference (FTC) and the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) where they can audition for acting and production internships with educational, community and professional theatres. Recently our students have interned with theatres such as The Utah Shakespeare Festival, Georgia Shakespeare, Berkshire (NY) Theatre, City Light Theatre in Georgia, and - in Florida - the Daytona Seaside Theatre, the Sarasota Theatre, and Theatre Jacksonville, and at Sundance Theatre Lab at White Oak Plantation. Internships are encouraged and expected of our theatre majors. SETC and FTC also offer our students exposure to many outstanding graduate schools and employment with full-time professional companies.
A number of Jacksonville University graduates have succeeded in the entertainment industry. Examples include an award-winning actor who starred on network television in Murphy Brown and in the hit movie Mr. Holland's Opus; a Miss America 1993 who went on to be a Lifetime Network television personality; a Miss USA and ESPN television personality; a Second City TV actor and owner/operator of a Chicago community theatre; a writer/creator/producer of hit TV shows including Roseanne and The Drew Carey Show; and an independent film producer who acted on Suddenly Susan.
