Sociology
Curriculum Overview
The sociology major requires the completion of 30 credit hours including Introduction to Sociology, Sociological Theory, Research Methods, and Statistics. For the remaining 18 hours, the student can choose from any of the other sociology courses offered, and from social science courses in other disciplines coordinated with those in sociology.
Because sociology is an interdisciplinary field of study, involving knowledge and skills applicable to any social and cultural setting, sociology majors benefit from extensive linkages between sociology and other disciplines and programs. These offer sociology majors a variety of opportunities for course work, undergraduate research and community service. With faculty guidance, students are encouraged to combine these opportunities in creative ways to maximize their educational experiences inside and outside the classroom.
