Political Science

Political science students at Jacksonville University have the world as their classroom. The faculty bring a global perspective based on their own experiences working, studying, and consulting around the world. The result is a political science program that closely examines U.S. government, law and politics, but also explores those subjects in other countries. You’ll also have an opportunity to study public policy and administration, war and peace, and survey and research methods.

During major election years, the upper-level class in Campaigns & Elections is filled with lively discussions on developing political stories. In simulation programs with students at other colleges, JU political science majors try their hand making decisions as part of the U.S. Senate or the United Nations. Many students opt to get their feet wet by working on political campaigns, participating in student political clubs (the Young Democrats and Young Republicans are both on campus) or doing internships in government, non-profit and research organizations.

The analytical, communication and research skills students gain in this major provide good preparation for careers in many fields, and for law school and other graduate study. Jacksonville University also has a pre-law program that provides specific academic advising for those with law school in mind.
