Orthodontics
Program Descriptions
The Advanced Specialty Education Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics is a 24 month clinically intensive course of study given through the School of Orthodontics at Jacksonville University. Successful completion of the program leads to a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Orthodontics. In addition, students also have the opportunity to pursue an MBA degree along with their orthodontic certification by continuing their education for approximately two additional semesters in collaboration with the Davis College of Business at JU.
Classes begin mid summer of each year. During the first year our goal is for each student to initiate comprehensive orthodontic treatment for at least fifty patients after completion of their pre-clinical training course.
Students are introduced to a variety of treatment philosophies, with an emphasis on preadjusted edgewise appliances and related techniques. Supervising clinical faculty espouse various diagnostic and mechanotherapeutic philosophies in daily diagnosis and treatment planning seminars. In addition, numerous contemporary techniques are demonstrated and utilized in the school's state-of-the-art orthodontic clinical facility.
Requirements for the C.A.G.S. program are successful completion of the mandatory course work, satisfactory treatment of one's assigned patients, acceptable performances on comprehensive didactic and clinical examinations, and the completion of a research paper on an approved topic. Requirements for the combined certificate/MBA program are successful completion of the required MBA curriculum beyond the 24 month period. JU has tailored an MBA experience for the unique demands of the orthodontist CEO providing the candidate with business skills that enhance one's opportunity to achieve a dynamic practice and/or top positions in the health care industry.
Currently, the faculty in the Advanced Specialty Education Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at Jacksonville University consists of 6 full time, 1 half time, and 4 part time clinical orthodontic and dental educators.
