Music Faculty Showcase Recital
Sept. 13 at 7:30 pm Terry Concert Hall
The program will feature an eclectic mix of classical, contemporary, and jazz instrumental and vocal works. Included in the program are baritone Robert Robinson performing Thomas Harrison’s Songs of James Nolan and baritone Robert Tudor performing The Private Dining Room by Dr. William Schirmer with pianist Scott Watkins. Dr. Dennis Vincent will perform Synthesizer, an original composition.
CD Release Recital

JU Artist-in-Residence Bobb Robinson welcomes guest artists Jane Christeson (mezzo-soprano), Rebecca Holbrook-Loar (soprano) and Michael Rickman (piano) to celebrate the release of Ms. Christeson’s debut CD, featuring the lieder and duets of Johannes Brahms.
Marguerite Richardson and Scott Watkins Recital

Assistant Professor of Strings, Marguerite Richardson and Assistant Professor of Piano, Scott Watkins join forces in the Violin Sonatas by Richard Strauss and Cesar Franck.
John Ricci in Concert

Since the release of his new jazz CD “Holding Time”, JU Director of Jazz Studies, John Ricci, has been cultivating a new sound with his own regularly performing jazz quartet. This evening will feature some of his own compositions and arrangements, as well as, original works by the members of his quartet.
Intercollegiate Choral Festival

The 13th Annual Intercollegiate Choral Festival will be held on the campus of FCCJ. Come hear the choirs of FCCJ, JU and UNF kick off the collegiate choral season in Jacksonville.
Composerfest Concert

First Coast Wind Ensemble

This 60-member group of JU students and community musicians perform masterworks from the wind repertoire.
An Evening of Music for Marimba

Tony Steve, Professor of Percussion at Jacksonville University, will present a concert featuring works for solo marimba. Repertoire will include the music of Beethoven and Roland Dyens. Professor Steve will perform two of his own works: Surge for marimba and Blaze Orange Leaves and Apple.
RAGTIME - The Musical

This epic musical paints a nostalgic and powerful portrait of life in Turn of the Century America. Based on E.L. Doctorow’s distinguished novel, Ragtime intertwines three stories illustrating history’s timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and love and hate. The show won best score, book, and orchestrations in the 1998 Tony Awards.

The Collaboration Project

In our second year of uniting disciplines, JU Faculty will explore strengths and virtues within the human evolutionary experience. Heavy Metal Scholarship

The study of hard rock and heavy metal has largely existed in the sociological arena, and up until 1990, was largely neglected by the musicological community. Dr. Harrison will provide an evening of discourse about hard rock and heavy metal scholarship, focusing on music of the 1980s. In addition to identifying important sub-genres of the period, he will demonstrate compositional elements on the electric guitar that separate different sub-genres from each other.
