Geography
At Jacksonville University, geography majors are all over the place—on field trips, at regional and national conferences, and in foreign countries such as Costa Rica and England. That’s how our students gather information—traveling to different places to experience the culture first-hand. They study relationships, patterns and the interaction of people with places. Another plus about studying geography at JU is the faculty. They develop professional and personal relationships with each student and are committed to ensuring that each student has goals and objectives for his or her life after JU.
Geography majors are going places career-wise, too. Skills practiced by students are life-long, diverse in nature, and translate well to any profession. Through internships, they tackle tough issues such as global warming and urban sprawl. They gain hands-on experience viewing and analyzing data utilizing technological Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which the U.S. Department of Labor identifies as “one of the nation’s fastest growing employment opportunities.”
