Dance & Dance Education
At Jacksonville University dancing is a lot more than just dancing. In a progressive program that’s growing by leaps and bounds, students not only perform regularly and in a variety of settings, they become experts at technique and choreography, dance history and criticism, and kinesiology. They learn to express ideas and emotions through a variety of movements including ballet, modern, jazz, ethnic, and experimental dance forms. |

JU’s dance program is comprehensive, competitive and holds accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Dance (NASD). Students can earn a B.A. or B.F.A. in dance or a B.A in dance education. JU is one of only two colleges in Florida to offer a B.A. degree in dance education, a unique and appealing program that provides equal emphasis within the School of Education and in dance.
The department encourages interaction and collaboration among its dance, music and theatre arts departments. Dance majors perform in theatre productions, getting involved with costuming, lighting and staging. Faculty members are professional dancers who remain active in regional and national dance activities. They coach, mentor and motivate students to achieve their potential. The department sponsors guest artists, enjoys a residency program with White Oak Plantation (Baryshnikov has a studio there) and encourages students to find internships and Study Abroad opportunities.
