Chemistry

Chemistry is more than the periodic table! It’s an exciting field at the heart of the physical sciences. Right here on the Jacksonville University campus, students work alongside faculty and professional researchers in the Millar Wilson Chemical Research Lab, which has been conducting relevant, practical research for more than 40 years in Jacksonville.

This is the kind of hands-on lab experience you can expect as a chemistry major at JU. You’ll learn how to think, analyze and investigate scientific problems in the lab. Small classes and an experienced faculty ensure that you will get personal attention. Your professors will work with you to find research opportunities and internships with local companies and agencies.

The chemistry major intertwines advanced study in chemistry with courses in physics and math. We also offer a biochemistry option that combines courses in chemistry and biology. This program is especially good for pre-med students and those interested in dentistry and pharmacy professional programs.

Outcomes
Jacksonville University chemistry graduates have gone on to successful careers in a variety of areas. Some of their employers include Bush-Boake-Allen Inc., Exxon, South Florida Water Management District, Merck & Co., the University of Virginia, and Jackson Memorial Hospital.
