Facilities & Resources
The Department of Biology and Marine Science is housed in the Reid Medical Sciences and the Nelms Buildings. Reid has a working wet lab with an aeration system, numerous aquaria and facilities to maintain various marine and freshwater organisms. The department maintains a walk-in environmental chamber and an aquaculture compound dedicated to freshwater fish aquaculture. Department equipment includes a variety of spectrophotometers, centrifuges, incubators and microscopes for the use of students and faculty in laboratory and research settings. Laboratory facilities dedicated to advanced molecular and cellular biology allow students to culture mammalian cells, amplify DNA using the polymerase chain reaction and view subcellular structures with fluorescent microscopy.
