Masters of Education
JU’s new five-year Masters of Education (M.Ed.) program provides the education and environment to prepare you for success in leading today’s classrooms. Our state-approved program is designed to prepare caring, competent and qualified professional educators who are dedicated to the profession and ready to thrive in diverse learning communities.
As a JU education major, you will be encouraged to embark on a journey of self-discovery to gain the confidence and skills to become a leader in education. Our education program is supported by the emphasis we place on values – in our classrooms, in our student organizations and in our everyday interactions with each other. We foster an environment that is supportive and respectful, sharing ideas to create a place where learning is grounded in theory and practice.
A Masters of Education in Five Years
National trends are for Universities to offer five-year master’s degrees and JU no longer offers a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Completing a master’s degree will benefit you immediately in your career by starting at a higher salary, as well as opening doors to other areas such as administration and other K-12 career paths. It also allows out-of-state students the ability to receive credentials that qualify them to teach in other states as well as Florida.
There are two concentrations in the master’s program, Elementary Education (ESOL and Reading endorsed) and Physical Education (K-12). Content is divided into 10 semesters during a five-year period, including 120 hours of undergraduate study and 30 hours of graduate work.
From the beginning, our program focuses on action research and real-life experience. You’ll experience theoretical and practical research which will help you develop and sharpen your decision-making skills.
