International Student Services

International Student Taxes

All International Students studying in the United States are required to file a Form 8843 and a Form 1040NR EZ or 1040 NR with the IRS every year, regardless of whether they have income from a United States source.  The Controller’s office will aid in the filing process prior to April 15 to teach proper filing status.  Financial Aid and the Controller’s Office provide both the IRS and the students with appropriate notice of income.  Those notices should be retained to aid in filing with the IRS.  It is not possible to execute tax forms properly without these notices.  The University will not provide individual assistance to students who fail to adhere to the IRS training, and most tax offices are not familiar with the tax laws pertaining to students studying on visas.
