Announcements
To: Full-time Faculty and Staff
From: George C. Scaduto, Vice President for Finance and Administration
As you know the University renews our benefit programs at this time every year. Last year we were faced with a significant increase in our medical rates due to claims experience. While our claims paid continue to increase the amount paid for the most recent year was moderate. We will continue to offer the current three plan choices: PPO, HMO and the High Deductible PPO. I am pleased to inform you there will be no change in the plan design, thereby keeping all of your co-pays and deductibles the same for 2009.
Rates have changed for next year and a complete description of the new rates by plan can be located here.
For those individuals who have employee only coverage the monthly cost for the PPO plan will increase from $20.00 to $69.00. However, you can keep your monthly cost the same for 2009 if you wish to consider changing to the HMO plan, where the monthly rate for employee coverage will be $20.00 next year. Rates for dependent tiers decreased from last year as the University is making a reasonable effort to bring these cost more in line with our peer institutions. We have also added Domestic Partner Benefits to the program and details on this benefit can be obtained by contacting the Office of Human Resources.
We will continue the popular Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and the Health Saving Account (HSA). There will be no change in our dental plan rates and plan design.
Open Enrollment will be held on October 21, 22 and 23rd from 10:00am to 2:00pm on the 2nd floor of the Howard Administration Building. In addition, we will sponsor an Information Session on Thursday, October 16th in the Reid Science Auditorium at 4:00pm to answer any questions you may have.
If you have any questions please contact the Office of Human Resources at extension 7025.
