Position Title: Art Director/Designer

Position Description
The Art Director/Designer is an integral member of the University Marketing & Communications team at Jacksonville University and reports to the Vice President for University Relations & External Affairs. The Art Director/Designer is responsible for all aspects of creating professional and effect designs to target various audiences of the University.
Responsibilities
• Designing and creating printed materials for University administration, departments, and programs with particular focus on marketing and recruitment materials.
• Creating artistically creative designs using desktop publishing software.
• Collaborating with client, fellow staff members and freelance artists.
• Coordinating with publications manager and clients from conception to final product of assigned projects.
• Designing original projects to meet client specifications and that promote a positive image of the institution.
• Selecting papers, inks, photos, and illustrations for University publications.
• Producing quality photos by taking photos, using freelance photographers, and collecting photos from other sources that will best fit design concepts.
• Producing professional illustrations for use in University publications and working with freelance illustrators to meet publication requirements.
• Art directing the production of “The Wave,” JU’s semi-annual alumni magazine. Select photos/illustrations for each story and section of the magazine. Work with editor to execute publication initiatives.
• Assisting with the development and evolution of University’s visual identity & graphic standards.
Qualifications
• Must have high-level skills in using MAC based InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, and other professional-level design software packages;
• The ability to work effectively and professionally in a higher education marketing program;
• Knowledge of graphic design and proven skills in creativity, communication, and project management;
• Demonstrated ability to create brand-unified, high-quality print materials;
• Ability to design original quality communication tools
• Demonstrated skills in typography, photography, illustration.
• Strong customer service skills;
• Ability to work accurately & independently, and as a team member;
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills and the ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field or an associate’s degree and two years of experience related to the job duties at a minimum.
