Position Title: Assistant Director of Financial Aid
Department: Financial Aid
Status: Full-time
Reports to: Director of Financial Aid

Position Description
The Assistant Director of Financial Aid counsels students, families and prospects regarding: types of financial aid and their availability; the policies and procedures through which funds are administered; the financial aid application process; programs available; and the resolution of problems. The Assistant Director is expected to oversee the administration of at least one state or federal program. Program administration includes monitoring individual student eligibility, submitting required reports within established deadlines, and performing annual reconciliations in preparation for the single audit.

Responsibilities

  • Support the University's stated enrollment objectives  and assist with the achievement of these.
  • Counsel students and parents regarding financial aid throughout the recruitment, application, admission and enrollment process.
  • Manage a caseload of graduate and undergraduate students or a special population of students (i.e., athletes, on-line nurses, NROTC). Manage responsibility for all phases of financial aid administration for students in the caseload including determining eligibility and packaging financial aid; monitor files for completeness and send out reminders; perform required verification of federal applications; exercise and document use of  Professional Judgment; certify loan eligibility, authorize release of funds and review eligibility for refunds.
  • Respond in a timely manner to walk-in and telephone inquiries.
  • Participate in the University's recruitment and retention activities.
  • Act as a team leader and primary contact for overall administration of assigned state, federal, or institutional aid program or programs; meet with auditors and respond as required.
  • Serve as liaison to other departments within the University.
  • Develop professional knowledge and expertise in financial aid.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree; administrative experience in a collegiate setting, preferably in a financial aid office or related area. Knowledge of regulations governing Title IV financial aid.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access).
  • Knowledge of the DataTel student information system, particularly the financial aid module.
  • Excellent problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills.
  • Understanding of and dedication to customer service.
  • Analytical problem solving.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, high energy environment.
