Position Title: Controller
Department: Controller's Office
Status: FT, Exempt
Reports to: Vice President for Finance and Administration

Position Description
The Controller plays a leadership role in the development and oversight of critical policies, procedures, and systems associated with the management of the University’s financial resources and business operations.

Responsibilities
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervision of a staff of approximately 18 employees and oversight of all University accounting functions including grants and contracts management, capital construction projects, financial reporting, student financial services, cashiering, and endowment administration.  The Controller is also responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, timeliness, and security of the University financial accounting system and establishing institution-wide financial policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Successful candidates should have at least seven years of progressively responsible financial management experience, preferably with an institution of higher education.  A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required; a CPA or MBA is preferred. Experience with the implementation of an integrated financial system is required; experience with Datatel’s Colleague software is strongly preferred.  Candidates should possess strong technical accounting skills, demonstrated oral and written communication and organizational skills, and must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people both within and outside the University.
