Position Title: Vice President for Student Life
Department: Student Life
Status: Exempt
Reports to: President

Position Description
The Vice President for Student Life is responsible for developing and implementing student affairs programs which integrate student life with academic co-curricular activities and community development; for preparing and monitoring student life budgets; for staff selections and development; for collaborating with broad efforts of the University; for developing a new student and parent orientation program; and for developing, administering and conducting governance policies and procedures for a residential campus.

Responsibilities
Report to the President and serve as a member of the President's Cabinet and the campus leadership team by representing the Division of Student Life.
Provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction to the Division of Student Life.
Supervision of departments budgets and programs including Judicial Affairs, New Student Orientation, Housing and Residence Life, Campus Activities, Counseling Center, Disability Support Services, International Students program, Greek Affairs, Campus Ministry, Student Programming Board, Student Government Association, Commuter Affairs, Student Union, Health Care provider, Intramurals, Recreation and Wellness program, all University sponsored clubs and organizations.
Develop a student life "team" committed to student advocacy, while exercising visible presence in resolution of conflict and monitoring connections to the University's constituents.
Demonstrate a commitment to education through the development and empowerment of students, by establishing a collaborative environment across the institution.
Understanding of current student issues, the broader network of family and social frameworks in which students develop, and the legal issues effecting students.
Knowledge of higher education risk management issues.
Periodic Responsibilities
Chair or serve on institutional committees.
Liaison with public safety, food service, continuing education, etc.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Student Personnel or related field.
  • 10 years of experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of higher education student development theory.

Education Experience required to perform job

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively relate with students, parents, faculty, administration and staff.
