Position Title: Dean - College of Fine Arts
Department: College of Fine Arts
Status: Exempt
Reports to: Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs

Position Description
The Dean is responsible to lead, administer and develop the College of Fine Arts, which includes the areas of Art, Theatre Arts, Dance and Music.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of the academic programs within the College, promoting the highest quality artistic and curricular standards.
  • Exercises broad directional and supervisory control over the college in budgetary, personnel, curricular, scholarship, recruitment and other academic matters.
  • Fosters and maintains productive ties with the professional artistic community and arts organizations.
  • Develops and enforces standards, rules and procedures for the conduct of the College's affairs.
  • Makes recommendations to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs on faculty assignments, appointments, promotions, tenure, raises and other faculty and staff issues.
  • Responsible for overall supervision of the physical plant and facilities of the Phillips FineArts Building, Breast Dance Pavilion, Swisher Auditorium, Terry Concert Hall, the DeliusHouse, and the Visual Arts Annex.
  • Presides over the weekly Dean's Meeting of Chairs and appropriate unit directors.

Periodic Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, in coordination with the Vice President for University Relations, in development of sources of support consistent with the needs of the established and emerging programs of the school.
  • Serves on University committees and other local, state, and national education and artistic organizations and committees.
  • Exercises broad directional and supervisory control of the development and activities of  support groups such as The Friends of the Fine Arts and other fundraising activities for the college.
  • Provides for active student participation and input concerning all aspects of the college through the Dean'' Council, an organization with elected student representatives from each art organization and each art discipline.
  • Supervision of the Director/Curator of the Alexander Brest Museum/ Gallery.

Qualifications

  • Earned terminal degree or professional equivalent in the Fine Arts area.

Education Experience required to perform job

  • Demonstrated capabilities in the areas of teaching and administration at the college level within a Fine Arts field.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in the areas of Arts leadership, development, public relations and student and faculty recruiting.
