Position Title: Visual Arts (2-D Design), Assistant Professor (tenure-track) August 2010

Position Description
Tenure-track, Assistant Professor to teach, from a graphic approach, 2-D design, with a secondary skill in illustration and emphasis on first year program development. Successful candidates should demonstrate understanding of traditional and contemporary foundations methodologies. The position requires a candidate who can demonstrate effective communication skills, the ability to teach 2-D design courses for studio artist and graphic designers, teach other courses such as digital art and digital illustration as needed, and work closely with undergraduate students in a private university environment amid a liberal arts core.

Responsibilities
Teach 3 courses/semester to selective admission BA and BFA students in comprehensive art department; oversight of studio area; maintain creative/professional achievement; program curriculum; and university service.

Qualifications

  • MFA degree in related medium
  • Strong knowledge of 2-D Design theory (including color theory)
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Knowledge of contemporary issues in art
  • Experience with curriculum development, and a commitment to undergraduate education
  • University teaching experience beyond graduate assistantship level is preferred
