A lifetime in aviation is the hallmark of Captain Jerry L. Terrell, Professor of Aeronautics. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, he graduated from Georgia Tech with a B.S. in management and was immediately commissioned in the U. S. Navy. He served on active duty as a Naval Aviator for nearly three decades, retiring with the rank of Captain. Career highlights include flying Navy jets from aircraft carriers all over the world, three combat deployments to Vietnam (one as squadron commander) where he earned 7 awards of the Distinguished Flying Cross, command of the Navy’s largest replacement training squadron, and a tour as Commanding Officer of NAS Cecil Field, Florida, one of the Navy’s premiere master jet bases. After retiring from the Navy he flew Boeing 707's with a U.S. airline to destinations both international and domestic. He holds an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate, the highest airman license awarded by the FAA.

Captain Terrell has a M.S. in Management from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and has taught the entire spectrum of Aeronautics courses from 100-level air science courses to 400-level aviation management courses, drawing on over 50 years of aviation experience. He has many contacts in the aviation world and pioneered the use of airline computer based training in an academic environment. Captain Terrell has served as faculty advisor for the Alpha Eta Rho aviation professional fraternity and for JU's student chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives. He is currently active on a number of committees on campus and participates in a variety of civic activities. Captain Terrell has grown children and resides in Atlantic Beach, Florida, with his wife, Sarah.
