Dr. Hassan Pordeli

Dr. Hassan Pordeli, professor of economics and finance, along with Peter Wynkoop of The HPW Group and Dr. Gwen Martin of the national Center for Women’s Business Research, recently completed a study entitled “The Economic Impact of Women-Owned Businesses in the United States.”At a time when the economy is experiencing significant challenges, it is important that women business leaders meet with public and private leaders to discuss tools available to small business and to explore ways that women owners can not only survive, but thrive, in this difficult period. The National Economic Summit for Women Business Owners, held in October 2009 in Washington, DC, provided that opportunity. Dr. Pordeli presented their results, which revealed that women-owned firms are responsible for more than $2 trillion in total economic output and create some 11 million jobs. The study was commissioned by Walmart, the National Women’s Business Council and the Center for Women’s Business Research in Washington D.C.
