Jacksonville University School of Nursing, Veteran BSN Program

In the Fall of 2013, the Jacksonville University School of Nursing was awarded a federal grant by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA Grant # UF1HP26485), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to enhance recruitment, advanced education, graduation, employment and retention of qualified Veterans seeking Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degrees. The Jacksonville University School of Nursing was one of only nine nursing schools nationally to be awarded the grant.

Jacksonville University's Veteran BSN Program supports two distinct BSN educational tracks, each based on established, successful Jacksonville University programs:

Track 1
This program offers qualified pre-licensure Veterans an opportunity to earn a BSN through either a traditional or second degree option as  a full-time, campus-based student.

Track 2
This program is designed for licensed, Veteran RNs interested in completing their BSN degree through an off-campus cohort option. The 18-month accelerated adult education program consists of 10 individual eight-week nursing courses, totaling 32 credit hours. Veteran RNs attend one afternoon/evening class per week, allowing them to remain employed while in the program.

Support Services
Each Veteran BSN Track is bolstered by Veteran-specific resiliency training and academic support. Additionally Dr. Lynnette Kennison, Jacksonville University Veteran BSN Project Director, and Dr. John (Sam) Young, the full-time Veteran BSN Program Advisor, will help ensure personal support for each Veteran student.
