University Admissions

All students intending to major in Dance must meet the Jacksonville University requirements for admissions and must complete an official application with the University's Admissions office. Additionally, students applying for admission into either the BA or BFA degree in Dance must gain admission into the chosen degree program through a live audition process.

Only under special circumstances (such as international students) may students audition through a recorded process. Both methods should be registered through the Office of Admissions.

Audition Requirements

All prospective dance majors are required to audition during one of Jacksonville University's scheduled audition days. Built into the scheduled events is a review evaluated by two or three of our current faculty.

Audition quick facts:

• The audition will consist of a short ballet barre, ballet center combination, a contemporarry technique section and an improvisation exercise to show creative and analytical skills.
• Following the audition transfer students may be asked for a short individual interview with evaluating faculty.
• Attire for this audition should be neat, clean, and allow for clear observation. Hair should be secured off the face and no large jewelry.

Audition Dates

Auditions for entry in the 2023-24 academic year will be conducted for review in four cycles. During the process, you will have the opportunity to showcase your talents and to experience firsthand our performance and art facilities. To ensure full consideration, be sure your materials are submitted on or before the deadline for your chosen admission cycle:

Opportunities for Support

We are strongly committed to making the degree accessible and affordable. Estimates of annual expenses and payment options are available from the admissions office. The program offers artist scholarships, loans and possible on-campus employment. Here are a few considerations:

• The artist fellowship is based both on merit and need. The fellowships, which range from full to partial tuition, are awarded each year to incoming students.
• Entering students must apply for the artist scholarship at the same time that they apply for admission.
• Student loans are not available to international students.
• All candidates applying for a fellowship/financial aid must complete the FAFSA form. The recommended date of completion is February 1.​

International Applicants

The undergraduate program strongly encourages applications from the international dance community. Since 1964, JU has developed artistic exchanges of choreographers, students and teachers with 61 countries around the world. We value the contributions that can be made to the program by students from countries outside the U.S. Students whose native language is not English.

• Must provide a completed Report on Proficiency in English form
• Submit results of the TOEFL, if taken (JU recommends that the TOEFL be taken, but it is not required.)
