Billy Thornton comes from a musical family with three brothers, a mother, stepmother, and a father (all musicians) who steeped him in all of the traditions of American Popular music. He has performed regionally, nationally and internationally for nearly 20 years, and remains one of the premier stylists of bass, having been influenced by a diversity of bassists from Aston "Family Man" Barrett of the Wailers to Ray Brown; from Tower of Power bassist Rocco Prestia to Chris Wood.
Whether Billy is onstage at the North Sea Jazz Festival, or playing a jazz duo in Jacksonville, his passion and sincerity ring through the band as he drives without over bearing. Billy’s uniqueness lies most in his multiplicity, as he plays electric and upright bass in literally ANY style; Broadway, Bop, Classical, Standards, Funk, Reggae, you name it. Billy has performed with local favorites as well as regional acts and notably with Kevin Bales, Houston Person, Nathan Page, Doug Carn, and many other great musicians.
