JAZZ STUDIES EMPHASIS WITHIN THE BACHELOR OF ARTS IN
MUSIC
The Bachelor of Arts in Music requires 12 hours of Music Electives in an
emphasis and offers and additional 9 hours of Music Electives, which would be
jazz-specific. These courses are required to fulfill the jazz emphasis and are

Additional Curriculum Information
- Students with an emphasis in applied music are advised to use their music
electives during semesters five through eight to take MUS 402, 100, 408 and to
apply for MUS 300 Junior Recital.
- Students who are primarily interested in music education are advised to
consult the Division of Music Office for a recommended sequence of courses.
- Students planning to seek graduate teacher certification should consult the
Division of Music Office for a recommended undergraduate semester-by-semester
degree completion plan.
