Save the date! Homecoming 2013 is October 25-26!
The Alumni Staff and Homecoming committee would like to
thank everyone who attended 2012
Homecoming events! We enjoyed seeing our alumni back on campus, and we hope you
had an enjoyable time. Here's a short recap of the weekend’s events.
On Friday evening, the President’s Reception
was held in the Davis College of Business where we honored our alumni award
winners. Ashley Cupaiuolo '08 was the recipient of the Scott Amos Recent Alumni
of Distinction award for her work with AmeriCorps and Teach for America, and
Ron Autrey '01 was the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni award for his
business, Miller Electric, and his strong dedication to the university as chairman of the Board of Trustees.
The selection committee made excellent choices, and we wish the best for both
of our winners! Later in the evening,
various affinity groups including rowing, track and field and football met and
celebrated their time together, while reliving their time at JU.
On Saturday, the rowing alumni came back for an early morning row against the
current team members. The students won by a small margin. The JU Leadership and
Green Key Breakfast also had a good turnout! The alumni and student interaction
at the tailgate was a huge success, and we plan to invite the students to the
alumni tailgate in the coming years. The 26-14 win over Marist was a treat, and
we had over 1900 people in attendance at the game! After the win, alumni
revisited the tailgating area for a 'Victory Hour' before the delicious low
country boil on the riverfront. Later that evening, alumni enjoyed dancing,
drinking & decadent desserts at the Alumni House while reflecting on their
time at JU and homecoming weekend.
The icing on the cake to this wonderful weekend was an email from President
Romesburg stating, "This is clearly the best Homecoming in my 9 years at
JU!" We're glad that everyone came together to make this a memorable last
Homecoming for Kerry, and we hope to build upon next year to welcome our new
president to Jacksonville University. We hope to see everyone return in 2013,
as well as see some new faces that haven't visited in a while.
A special thanks to all the volunteers that helped make this Homecoming a huge
success!
