WHAT: Jacksonville University Alumnus David Walker, founder and CEO of Comeback America Initiative and former comptroller general of the United States, will be joined by Robert Bixby, executive director of the Concorde Coalition and former Senator Mel Martinez for a discussion to promote fiscal responsibility and sustainability. Their goal is to engage the public and assist key policymakers, on a non-partisan basis, to achieve solutions to America’s fiscal imbalances and discuss a range of potential solutions, what trade-offs we need to make, and how we can leave a stronger, more prosperous nation to our children and generations still to come.

WHO
David Walker served as the seventh Comptroller General of the United States and head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) for almost 10 years (1998-08).
 
Robert Bixby is executive director of The Concorde Coalition, a nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to fiscal responsibility. The Concord Coalition was founded in 1992 by former U.S. Senators Warren Rudman (R-NH) and the late Paul Tsongas (D-MA). Former Senator Bob Kerrey (D-NE) now serves as Co-Chair of the organization. Bixby frequently represents Concord’s views on budget and entitlement reform policy at congressional hearings and in the national media. Most recently, he served on the Bipartisan Policy Center’s (BPC) Debt Reduction Task Force.

Mel Martinez is a former U.S. Senator representing Florida, having served from 2005 to 2009. Previously he was the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under George W. Bush. He is currently the Chairman of JP Morgan Chase’s Florida Market and its operations in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. He also serves on JPMorgan Chase’s corporate executive committee and works with its “most senior level clients ¬– from businesses to large corporation to non-profits and governments.
