​Jacksonville, Fla. – Jacksonville University is pleased to announce that Gordon A. Bass, Jr., the current Undersheriff of Nassau County and one of Northeast Florida's most established law enforcement professionals, has been named director of Campus Security, effective Sept. 6. Bass was hired following a comprehensive national search, which produced a record pool of qualified applicants. 

As director of Campus Security, Bass will be directly responsible for all aspects of campus safety, promoting asecure living and learning environment for the 3,400 students and more than 500 employees at JU.

Prior to his current post in Nassau County, Bass served in the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for 34 years in various positions, including director of the Department of Corrections, chief of the Detective Division, chief of the Community Affairs Division, assistant chief of the Patrol Division and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. 

Bass possesses dual Master of Arts degrees from Webster University, one of which is in Security Management, and is a graduate of the 200th session of the FBI National Academy.  Bass is a graduate of Leadership Jacksonville, and has served on the board of the Sulzbacher Center.   Bass has close ties to the University, as two of his three children are alumni.
