Jacksonville, Fla.—The Friends of the Jacksonville University Library (FOL) will host their annual membership drive gathering on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the home of Penny Waller (9449 Preston Trail West) in Sawgrass at Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The event will include lunch and is free and open to the public. Guests must RSVP to 256-7267 by Monday, Oct. 10, for admission to Sawgrass.
“This is a great way for residents in the community to connect and help improve a place of learning in our city,” said David Jones, director of the Carl S. Swisher library. “A library is an important tool for a University and a hot spot for students and we want to keep it up-to-date and thriving.”
In addition to networking, the FOL hosts an annual fashion show in February that includes entertainment by local celebrities, as well as nationally and internationally recognized authors at reception luncheons throughout the year.
This year, the FOL will host lunch with author Angela Atkins on Nov. 18 and author Charles Martin on March 13, 2012. Past events have included a glass-blowing demo by JU Visiting Professor Brian Frus and portrait painting by local professional artist and JU adjunct professor Jordan Brown.
The Friends of the JU Library is a social, educational and fundraising group of JU. The focus of the FOL is to benefit the needs of the students, faculty and others who use the Carl S. Swisher Library. Led by an elected Board of Directors with the support of the JU library staff and the JU office of University Advancement, the Friends host several events throughout the academic year to raise funds and to provide educational and social venues for interaction among the members.
