Florida-based ceramic artist and JU associate professor of art Dana Chapman is the subject of an exhibition which opened on Monday, August 29, at the University of Indianapolis.
“Reflections of Comfort: Ceramic Quilts” runs through Sept. 23 in UIndy’s Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center Gallery, 1400 E. Hanna Ave. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays, and admission is free.

The show features 18 works, most of them involving multiple pieces that are grouped for wall display or wired together in lattices and hung from frames to create the assemblages Chapman calls “quilts.” She often uses her clay to replicate plant forms, household items, hardware and other everyday objects, employing a range of firing and glazing techniques to simulate the various textures.
“I am, at heart, a maker of objects that consider the childlike wonderment of human experience,” she says. “I am a sculptor recording moments in human existence through the medium of clay.”
Chapman holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in ceramics from Tulane University.
