Kudos to Teri M. Chenot, EdD, RN, associate professor of nursing, whose dissertation entitled “Frameworks for Patient Safety in the Nursing Curriculum” was published in the Journal of Nursing Education in July, 2010.  The primary purpose of her study was to gain a better understanding of the current status of patient safety awareness among prelicensure nursing students.

The School of Nursing’s Cheryl Bergman PhD, ARNP, CEN, recently received her doctorate degree on June 20, 2009 from Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. Bergman’s dissertation was entitled "A Grounded Theory on the Process Emergency Nurses Utilize When Managing Adult Patients' Pain."

Congratulations to the following nursing faculty, who recently completed their doctoral degrees: Mary Gipson, PhD,ARNP,Dissertation: Using Game to Facilitate the Move to a Learner-Centered Classroom, Barry University; Michelle Edmonds, PhD, ARNP, FNP-BC, Dissertation: The Lived Experience of Nursing Students Who Study Abroad: A Phenomenological Inquiry, Barry University; and Jeane Richards, EdD, MN, RN, Dissertation: Teaching for Cultural Competence: Preferred Strategies of Baccalaureate Nursing, University of North Florida.

Kennison, L. (2007, March). Smoking and pregnancy: Reconciling incompatibilities. Poster session presented at the annual meeting for US, Women and Girls Health Initiative, Jacksonville, FL.

Dr. Andra Opalinski earned PhD in Nursing from University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in May 2007.  Dr. Opalinski also completed National Institutes of Health Grant entitled CULTURAL BELIEFS AND ATTITUDES RELATED TO OVERWEIGHT CHILDREN IN HAITIAN AND HISPANIC CULTURES AND THE ROLE OF HEALTH MINISTRY.

Michelle L. Edmonds presented a poster entitled “The Lived Experience of Nursing Students Who Study Abroad” at the 18th International Research Conference for Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society in Vienna Austria on July 12th, 2007.​​
